A 20-year-old woman named Kaylin Gillis was shot dead by a homeowner in upstate New York on Saturday night.
Gillis was in a car with three friends, searching for a friend’s house in the town of Hebron when they accidentally turned into the wrong driveway.
As they were leaving, the homeowner, Kevin Monahan, fired two shots from his patio at the vehicle, hitting Gillis.
Monahan, the homeowner, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, Monahan fired the shots even though there was no threat from the group in the car.
The group of friends did not interact with Monahan, and they never left the car. Gillis was pronounced dead when first responders reached the car.
When deputies arrived at Monahan’s home, he was allegedly uncooperative and refused to leave his home for over an hour, leading to some difficulties before he was taken into custody.
Sheriff Murphy knew the victim’s family and stated that she came from a good family. He expressed sadness at the loss of such a young life.
This shooting incident in New York happened just two days after a 16-year-old named Ralph Yarl was shot and wounded in Kansas City after he rang the doorbell of a home.
