Allen Cedric “A.C.” Cowlings is a retired American football player who played for various teams of the National Football League (NFL) including the Buffalo Bills, Houston Oilers, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers.

He was born on June 16, 1947, in San Francisco, California. He is also an actor who played Coach Nabors in the 1980s sitcom ‘1st & Ten: The Championship’.

He was interested in football from a very young age and played for his high school team. He continued playing football for his college team and went on to become a professional football player.

Allen Cedric Cowlings grew up in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

He was involved in various activities in his neighborhood and was a member of the Superiors social club. He was a student at Galileo Academy of Science and Technology (Galileo High School).

After completing high school, he continued to play football by enrolling in the City College of San Francisco.

He later attended the University of Southern California, where he became an All-American defensive tackle after his senior year.

Sports Career

Allen Cedric Cowlings was chosen by Buffalo Bills in the very first round of the 1970 NFL Draft. He played for the Bills wearing the number 83 jersey and started 12 out of the 13 games in his debut season.

He repeated his 1971 statistics in the season after that. After the end of the 1971 season, he was traded to Houston Oilers.

He played 28 games for them in total. In 1975, he played five games for the Los Angeles Rams in the regular season and made his playoff debut in a winning effort against the St Louis Cardinals

In 1976, he joined the Seattle Seahawks as a charter member after the Rams made his contract available to the other teams. He played only one match for the Seahawks before returning to the Rams.

Cowlings played 14 games for the Rams in 1977, took a year off, and played his final season of his career for the San Francisco 49ers in 1979, appearing in 12 matches.

Acting Career

Allen Cedric Cowlings briefly pursued an acting career after retiring from football. During his time as a professional footballer, he was featured in a documentary, ‘O.J. Simpson: Juice…’. He played Coach Nabors in the 1980s sitcom ‘1st & Ten: The Championship’.
