Eflin was born in Orlando, Florida. He had a difficult upbringing, as his older sister Ashley died of leukemia at a young age. His other sister Candace has special needs.

In December 2014, Eflin was traded twice in 24 hours, first to the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of a package for outfielder Matt Kemp, and then to the Philadelphia Phillies as part of a package for franchise star Jimmy Rollins.
Eflin made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 2016 and moved between the major and minor leagues for several seasons.
He became a regular starter in the Phillies’ rotation in the 2019-21 seasons but was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a right knee contusion.
