Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was arrested early on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles after a routine traffic stop.
According to law enforcement sources, LAPD officers stopped Wilder’s Rolls-Royce at around 1:15 AM in Hollywood, claiming that his car windows were tinted illegally and his license plate was obstructed.
During the stop, the officers detected an odor of burnt marijuana from Wilder’s car, prompting them to search it.
Cops found both marijuana and a 9mm firearm in the vehicle, leading to Wilder’s immediate arrest.
Despite the situation, sources say that Wilder was cooperative and polite throughout the process.
The 37-year-old was booked on a charge of possession of a concealed weapon and held in custody for a few hours before bonding out at 6:34 AM.
