Joe Pazdan, Managing Principal of McMillan Pazdan Smith Architects, has passed away at the age of 62 after a brave battle with cancer.
The architect and designer was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, where he made a significant impact on the local community.
Pazdan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Design and Building Science and Management from Clemson University.
After working at JE Sirrine Company, he and a fellow designer established Pazdan Smith Group in 1993.
The firm has since grown to become McMillan Pazdan Smith Architects, with over 330 experts and eight locations throughout Georgia and the Carolinas.
Throughout his career, Pazdan contributed significantly to Greenville’s downtown business corridor, with projects including retail, mixed-use, commercial office, and industrial buildings.
He was passionate about environmentally responsible architecture and land use, leaving a lasting impact on the community’s economic viability.
Pazdan’s passion for sustainable design extended beyond his professional work. He served on various boards and committees for Greenville institutions and nonprofits, including the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, the March of Dimes, Greenville Technical College, and the Metro YMCA. He also worked in managerial roles for the Urban Land Institute, giving back to communities beyond Greenville.
Pazdan had a deep commitment to the Greenville community, where he lived with his wife of 36 years, Ginny Piper Pazdan. He is survived by his wife, three children, and three grandchildren, as well as several siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Pazdan’s legacy of impact on the Greenville community will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Emilie and John Pazdan. His funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
