A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred on Saltwater Creek Road in Maryborough on Sunday night.
A 13-year-old boy, who was allegedly driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz, rear-ended a Holden with three occupants.
The collision caused the Holden to hit an oncoming Mazda. Three people died, and one victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
The victims of the accident were Kelsie Davies, Michale Chandler, and Sheree, a nurse at the Maryborough Hospital.
Kelsie was a passenger in the Holden, Michale was the driver, and Sheree was in the Mazda. Another woman was also taken to the hospital with multiple significant injuries.
The small community of Maryborough has been left devastated by the tragedy. Friends and colleagues of the victims have laid floral tributes to honor their memories.
Assistant Commissioner Brian Connors expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the first responders, and acknowledged the ripple effects the tragedy would have on the community.
The alleged driver, a 13-year-old boy, was charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death.
The police are investigating whether he had a passenger with him at the time of the crash.
