However, despite his success, Fox faced a personal struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was diagnosed with the disease in 1991 at the age of 29.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement and can cause tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

Fox went public with his diagnosis in 1998 and became an advocate for Parkinson’s research.

Despite his illness, Fox continued to act and starred in the hit television series “Spin City” from 1996 to 2001, earning another Golden Globe Award.

He also made guest appearances on various television shows, such as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “The Good Wife.”

Fox retired from acting in 2020, citing health reasons related to his Parkinson’s disease.

However, he remains an advocate for Parkinson’s research and has established the Michael J.

Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has raised over $1 billion to fund research into finding a cure for the disease.

Michael J. Fox is the son of William Fox and Phyllis Piper.

His father served in the Canadian Forces for 25 years before becoming a police dispatcher, while his mother was a payroll clerk and actress.

Fox comes from a diverse ancestry, with Irish, English, and Scottish roots.

His maternal grandmother hailed from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Throughout his childhood, Fox’s family moved frequently due to his father’s career.

They eventually settled in Burnaby, a city located outside of Vancouver, in 1971 after his father retired.

Unfortunately, Fox’s father passed away from a heart attack on January 6, 1990, and his mother passed away in September 2022.
