Stetson Bennett, born on October 28, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in college football.
Bennett’s journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. The story of his rise to prominence is an inspiration to many aspiring athletes across the country.
Bennett’s family moved from Atlanta to Nahunta, Georgia when he was in the first grade. Later, in eighth grade, his family moved again to Blackshear, Georgia.
It was there that he played high school football at Pierce County High School.
Despite being undersized and underrated, Bennett led his school to three consecutive state playoff appearances.
As a senior, Bennett’s impressive performances saw him throw for 3,724 yards, run for 500 more, and score 40 total touchdowns.
Despite these outstanding numbers, Bennett was only a two-star quarterback coming out of high school.
Coaches thought he was too short and too light to compete at the Division I level.
At the time, Bennett was just 5 feet 9.5 inches tall and weighed 185 pounds.
Despite the setbacks, Bennett was determined to pursue his passion for football. He received an FBS scholarship offer from Middle Tennessee State.
However, Bennett decided to walk-on at the University of Georgia, where he redshirted his freshman year.
In 2018, Bennett transferred to Jones County Junior College, where he started for one season before returning to Georgia in 2019.
Bennett was expected to be the backup quarterback in 2019, but an injury to starting quarterback Jake Fromm gave him an opportunity to showcase his talent.
Bennett impressed in his first start against the Arkansas Razorbacks, throwing for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
He continued to impress throughout the season, leading Georgia to victories over ranked opponents such as Tennessee and Auburn.
However, Bennett’s best moment came in the Georgia vs.
Alabama game, where he threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to a 41-24 victory over the Crimson Tide.
