James Alexander, South African Actor Passes Away after battling cancer

South African actor and producer James Alexander, popularly known as James Gracie, has passed away after battling head and neck cancer. He was 45 years old.

James was diagnosed with cancer in January 2019, but he and his wife, Anel, chose to keep it private.

The couple, who had been living and working in Hollywood for five years, returned to South Africa in 2020.

Anel announced the tragic news of her husband’s passing on Facebook after suffering from head and neck cancer , expressing her heartbreak and paying tribute to the actor.

She wrote, “You were magic, a unicorn, and everybody knew it. You loved people, and they loved you. And oh, how you made us laugh! You finished the race well, the suffering is over. Now Rest In Peace, my Jamie. Cancer might have won the battle for your body, but your soul was never beaten. I will always love you xxx.”

James Gracie was a highly versatile actor who worked in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States over the past 15 years.

He was best known for his portrayal of Dr. Rico Maartens in the popular Afrikaans soap opera, Binnelanders, as well as his role as Tristan in M-Net’s The Wild.

He also co-presented the M-Net reality competition show Project Fame in 2004 and appeared in numerous other South African TV shows and films such as Generations, Home Affairs, Thoughts, Lost, Voeltjie, Donderland, Geraamtes in die Kas, Heartlines, Madiba, Roots, The Book of Negroes, and Trackers.
