The couple was discovered with gunshot wounds, and the officials are investigating their death as a homicide.
Officer Tavarez-Rodriguez failed to report to work, prompting police supervisors to investigate.
They found the couple at their home on Vandenberg Drive and immediately reported their discovery to Chief Kemberle Braden.
The chief announced their death in a press conference held late at night at the Central District headquarters. The State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
Officer Tavarez-Rodriguez was a military veteran and a member of the Fayetteville Police Department since 2021. He was 53 years old according to his voter registration documents.
The couple got married on October 13th, 2022, and had been living in their home on Vandenberg Drive since 2017.
