Ben Salas, NCSU Student Found Dead Near Lake Raleigh

Ben Salas, a North Carolina State University student, was found dead near Lake Raleigh on the 26th of April. His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.

Salas was a junior in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, an award-winning member of the NCSU rifle team, and had recently celebrated his birthday on March 6.

This occurrence marks the 14th death of an NCSU student since the beginning of the school year on August 13.

The university is currently investigating the tragic incident. The Counseling Center is available for anyone experiencing a mental health emergency, and more information about special counseling services will be shared when available.

NCSU students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences received an email from the dean, Deanna Daniels, expressing her condolences about the student’s death.

In her email, Daniels revealed that Salas was an undergraduate student in criminology who started studying at NC State in the summer of 2020.

Ben Salas was an off-campus student-athlete who was a member of the school’s air rifle team. According to theNCSU website, he won gold in Junior Men’s Air Rifle at the 2022 Rifle National Championships.

NC State’s police chief, Daniel House, expressed his sadness and concern over the incident. He said that anytime someone takes their own life, it is a tragedy. The university is currently working on programs and projects to help students who may be contemplating suicide.
