Tragedy struck yesterday afternoon when South Stokes High School student-athlete Blake Hughes lost his life in a deadly car accident.

Hughes, who was an outstanding athlete and a brilliant young man, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred near the South Stokes Fire Department on Highway 8.
To make matters even more heartbreaking, Hughes was on his way to his final regular season Home game, his senior night, when the accident occurred.
The game was cancelled due to the crash, and no further details about the accident have been released. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
Although Hughes was primarily known for his skills on the softball field at South Stokes High School, it’s worth noting that he also played baseball for the South Stokes Sauras, according to Maxprep.
