Dick Groat, Baseball Legend, Passes Away at Age 92


Dick Groat, a well-known baseball player, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. He was 92 years old.

His death has left many people heartbroken and devastated, including his family, friends, and loved ones. Groat will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Many people have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Groat since his passing. Jay Bilas, a sports analyst, recently posted on social media, “Dick Groat was one of the nicest, kindest, most genuine people I’ve ever met.


He was so kind and generous to me in my time at Duke and after. As great as he was as an athlete, he was a better person. RIP to the great Dick Groat.”

Groat was an eight-time All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series champion in Major League Baseball. He also played basketball and made his hometown of Pittsburgh proud with his athletic achievements.

Groat’s World Series-clinching home run in 1960 is celebrated in statue form outside of PNC Park, and he is known for being the hitting champion with a.325 average on the field and even on the mic.
