The remains of 37-year-old Alison Thomas, who had been missing since mid-February, were discovered on March 6th in a national forest in Jackson County.

Today, authorities have confirmed that her death was the result of homicide following an autopsy conducted to identify her body.
Despite repeated requests from Thomas’ family to end the investigation, no arrests have been made yet in connection with her death.
Prior to the discovery of her remains, members of the Oakboro community had banded together in an effort to locate her. Missing posters were put up all over town, and search parties were quickly organized.
Investigators say they have leads in the case and are working with their counterparts in Jackson County to bring the perpetrator to justice. Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office are also assisting in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Thomas’ family is preparing for a memorial service that will be held in Winston-Salem next week.
They continue to wait for closure and justice for their loved one. A reward of up to $5,000 is still being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
