Julia Fox was born in Milan in 1990 to an Italian mother and an American father. Despite living in a one-bedroom apartment with her family, she recalls feeling content and loved during her early years in Italy.
At the age of six, she moved with her father to New York City, where she lived in Yorkville, Manhattan.
While many may recognize her for her breakthrough role in the 2019 film Uncut Gems, Fox’s career is multi-faceted and varied.
After briefly moving back to Italy when she was 14, Fox returned to New York City and began working several service jobs, including at a shoe store, an ice cream shop, and a pastry shop.
She also attended City-As-School High School and worked as a dominatrix for six months.
Fox’s career began in the fashion industry, where she launched a successful women’s knitwear luxe line called Franziska Fox with her friend Briana Andalore.
She also worked as a model and posed for the last nude edition of Playboy in 2015.
Additionally, Fox is an exhibiting painter and photographer, having self-published two books of photography, Symptomatic of a Relationship Gone Sour: Heartburn/Nausea in 2015, and PTSD in 2016.
Despite her success in fashion and modeling, Fox’s true passion was always acting. She made her acting debut in the 2019 film Uncut Gems, where she played the role of Julia, the girlfriend of Adam Sandler’s character, Howard Ratner.
Her performance received critical acclaim, and she was nominated for the Breakthrough Actor Award at the 2019 Gotham Awards.
Following her breakthrough role in Uncut Gems, Fox has appeared in several other films and TV shows, including Puppet, PVT Chat, and the HBO miniseries The Undoing.
In addition to her work in fashion, modeling, and acting, Fox is also an accomplished artist. In 2017, she hosted an art exhibit titled “R.I.P. Julia Fox'”, which featured silk canvases painted with her own blood.
The exhibit explored themes of mortality, femininity, and identity and received positive reviews from critics.
