Walter Bruce Willis, a retired American actor, has had a long and successful career in Hollywood.
Born on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, Willis’ mother was German while his father was an American soldier.
The family later moved to Carneys Point, New Jersey, where Willis grew up in a blue-collar family.
Willis attended Penns Grove High School, where he struggled with a stutter and was nicknamed “Buck-Buck” by his classmates.
However, he found his passion for acting through the drama club and was eventually elected student council president.
After graduating high school, Willis worked as a security guard at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant and as a crew transporter at the DuPont Chambers Works factory in Deepwater, New Jersey.
Later, he worked as a private investigator, which eventually led him to turn to acting.
Willis enrolled in the Drama Program at Montclair State University, where he was cast in a production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”
He left school in 1977 and moved to New York City, where he supported himself as a bartender at the Manhattan art bar Kamikaze while living in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
Willis achieved fame with his leading role on the comedy-drama series “Moonlighting” (1985-1989) and went on to appear in over a hundred films.
He gained recognition as an action hero after his portrayal of John McClane in the “Die Hard” franchise (1988-2013) and other notable roles.
