Bella Poarch was born in the Philippines on February 8, 1997, to Filipino parents. She was raised by her grandmother in the slums until she was three years old before being adopted.
Her adoptive father, who is American and had served in the US military, and her adoptive mother, who is Filipina, met in Saudi Arabia, and they settled in the Philippines.
Poarch had a difficult childhood, and she and her adopted brother were heavily abused until she joined the military. She lived on a farm with her adoptive parents, two older adopted sisters, and her brother.
Despite being only seven years old, Poarch had many responsibilities on the farm.
Her adoptive sisters didn’t receive the same treatment as her, and she recounts that her father was verbally and physically abusive, while her mother did not intervene.
The family moved to San Francisco to live with her aunt for a couple of months, and when she was 13, they moved to Texas because of her father’s need for bypass surgery.
Although the abuse decreased, she still faced some mental abuse from her father at home.
Bella Poarch created her TikTok account in January 2020 and began actively posting content on gaming and cosplay in April 2020. Her lip-sync videos went viral, especially her video where she lip syncs to “Sophie Aspin Send” by Millie B, which became TikTok’s most liked video of all time.
Following her success on TikTok, Poarch launched a YouTube channel and a Twitter page.
In December 2020, professional Esports organizations FaZe Clan and 100 Thieves showed interest in Poarch, a live streamer and gamer at the time, as a content creator under their respective banners.
She also released a limited clothing line RIPNDIP x Paca Collaboration in 2020.
On May 14, 2021, Poarch released her debut single “Build a Bitch,” which was produced by Daniel Virgil Maisonneuve, better known as Sub Urban.
The music video, which features notable internet personalities like Mia Khalifa, Bretman Rock, and Valkyrae, was described by Billboard as “an audacious, darkly comic slice of new-school pop.”
In the song, Poarch reveals her own history of being bullied as a child. She had always wanted to be a singer since she was a child.
In May 2021, Poarch signed a record deal with Warner Records, and in August 2022, she released her first EP, Dolls.
The EP includes her previous singles “Build a Bitch,” “Inferno,” and “Dolls,” as well as new tracks “Villain,” “No Man’s Land,” and “Living Hell.” The music video for “Living Hell” debuted alongside the EP, and Grimes features on “No Man’s Land.”
As of February 8, 2023, Bella Poarch has over 92.8 million followers on TikTok, making her the third most-followed individual on the platform behind Khaby Lame and Charli D’Amelio.
She is also the most followed TikTok contributor in the Philippines. On August 17, 2020, she created the most-liked video on TikTok, where she lip syncs to the song “M to the B” by British rapper Millie B.
