Oran Gethins, a talented young boxer in his 20s, died in a car accident in Sligo.
He was a resident of The Woodlands, Ballytivnan, Sligo, and was previously from Rockvalley, Dromahair, County Leitrim.
The accident occurred in the Rathbraughan area of Sligo, not far from his home.
The Sean McDermott Boxing Club in Manorhamilton paid a moving tribute to Oran Gethins, who was a member of the club since he was seven years old.
He won an Irish title for the club in 2016. The club praised him as a respectful and willing student who was a pleasure to train.
They expressed their condolences to Oran’s parents, Andrew and Maeve, and his younger brother, Zach, and the extended Gethins and Gallagher families.
The police, known as the Gardaí, are investigating the fatal crash and appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The deceased was taken to Sligo University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. The Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene and car, and the road has since reopened to traffic.
Gardaí are appealing to road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the scene at Rathbraughan, Sligo, to make it available to them.
