Garcia started his boxing journey at the young age of seven. He aimed to represent the United States in the 2016 Olympics. He won 15 national amateur championships and achieved a record of 215-15.

Garcia turned professional at the age of 17 on June 9, 2016. He won his first professional bout against Edgar Meza by TKO in Tijuana.


He signed with Golden Boy Promotions in November 2016. He made his debut on December 17, 2016, and won the fight by knockout in the second round.

Garcia started his professional career with Golden Boy Promotions. He had a canceled fight with Avery Sparrow in September 2019.

From October 2018 to February 2022, he trained with Eddy Reynoso, who also trains Canelo Alvarez and Scar Valdez at their facility in San Diego, California.

In September 2019, Garcia signed a new five-year contract with Golden Boy Promotions. The details of the contract were not disclosed.
